HLB

The Challenge:

The projects I tackled while Interning at HLB are protected by confidentiality agreements. This particular project involved the design of a product that would be sold in retail stores such as The Home Depot and Lowe's.

The Process:

Learnings

My Role

  • Intensive Secondary research

  • Theoretical design parameter validation

  • Concept Brainstorming

  • CFD simulations using SolidWorks flow

  • Client Presentations

  • 3D design of Alpha Prototype

  • Physical Testing of Prototypes

  • Design for Manufacture and Assmebly

  • Working with NIOSH and OSHA constraints

  • Designing for Possible UL constraints

  • Solidworks Flow Simulation

  • Collaborative Assembly building in SolidWorks

  • Design for Manufacture and Assembly

  • Clear communication across departments

  • Prioritizing for deadlines.

At HLB I was part of a holistic design process that took into consideration the needs of all the stakeholders.

Once Primary design research had been used to create solid Product Definitions, the Engineering and Industrial Design teams worked in tandem to create the best possible product for our client, following through several stages of product prototyping, testing and iteration followed by DFMA and ID, working closely with suppliers and manufacturers to reduce the chances of any hiccups down the line. Finally, HLB provides support after the release of technical drawings and specifications to manufacturers as needed.
